IAA Unveils Major Revision of SETI Post-Detection Protocols: Expanded Technosignatures, Verification, and Global Communication
To the point
Led by Michael Garrett, the updated SETI post-detection framework establishes that the discovering team may announce first but any confirmed detection must be independently verified before public release, broadens technosignatures beyond radio, protects scientists and allows cautious media engagement, clearly labels ruled-out signals as not intelligent life, archives data in two geographically distinct locations, expands the notification roster with social-media coordination, and will be presented at the IAC in Turkey to guide humanity’s response to future discoveries.
