Planets around M-dwarf stars can lose their atmospheres, and for rocky worlds without a global magnetic field the escape rate peaks at about 0.75 Venus radii because they absorb enough high-energy radiation to ionize atmospheric particles that are swept away by magnetized stellar winds, while smaller planets intercept less energy and larger planets’ stronger gravity makes escape harder.
