The Piedmont Lights of 1973: A 50th‑Anniversary Commemoration and Community UFO Events

Hundreds in Piedmont, Missouri, saw unexplained red, green, amber and white lights for about ten minutes in 1973, an event witnessed by Reggie Bone and three basketball players that drew local and later national attention and was documented by Dr. Harley Rutledge in his 1981 book, and to mark the 50th anniversary the Piedmont Chamber of Commerce organized Close Encounters of the Piedmont Kind with MUFON co-sponsoring and speakers such as Debbie Ziegelmeyer and Margie Kay, coordinated by Sara Phillips to involve the community.
