From Project Blue Book to AARO: A History of U.S. UFO Investigation (1947–2022)
To the point
From 1952 to 1969 the U.S. Air Force ran Project Blue Book, reviewing roughly 12,618 sightings (701 unidentified) and building on earlier Sign and Grudge efforts sparked by Kenneth Arnold’s flying saucer craze, with Captain Edward J. Ruppelt among its leaders, and after the 1968 Condon Committee concluded further study was unlikely to yield major discoveries the program wound down, only for renewed interest to emerge in 2022 with the DoD’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office to standardize sighting reporting.
