SETI: The Ongoing Search for Intelligent Life Through Radio and Optical Signals

To the point

SETI seeks evidence of intelligent life beyond Earth by listening for radio and laser signals from other civilizations, a pursuit that began with Cocconi, Morrison, and Frank Drake’s Project Ozma and continues today under private funding with the SETI Institute conducting broad research and public outreach.

SETI Research

SETI searches for evidence of intelligent life beyond Earth by listening for interstellar radio and optical signals, drawing on Cocconi, Morrison and Frank Drake’s Project Ozma, with non-detections attributed to limited sky coverage and sensitivity and funded largely by private donations after NASA’s program cancellation, guided by the Drake Equation, Ozma, Phoenix, the Arecibo Message, the Fermi Paradox and the Wow! Signal, and led by the SETI Institute in multidisciplinary research across astrobiology, astronomy and astrophysics, data science, exoplanets, heliophysics and planetary exploration plus education and public outreach.
