Simulating Next-Generation ELTs: Detecting Biosignatures on Nearby Rocky Exoplanets with HARMONI and METIS

To the point

Lead author Huihao Zhang and co-author Ji Wang show that simulations of next‑generation extremely large telescopes with HARMONI and METIS indicate ground and space observatories can jointly detect oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane and water on nearby rocky exoplanets such as Proxima Centauri b and GJ 887 b, guiding mission planning and highlighting complementary strengths to JWST.
