At the National Archives there are extensive UFO-related materials, including Project Blue Book (1947–1969) with 12,618 sightings and 701 unidentified, plus files on Roswell, Area 51, Majestic-12, Gerald Ford's 1966 call for investigation, Jimmy Carter's 1973 Leary, Georgia sighting, DoD and NASA materials, a 1950 Northrop memo, a test-flight drawing, FAA records on Japan Airlines Flight 1628 over Alaska, Gemini VII transcripts noting a “bogey,” and video of Maj. Gen. John A. Samford and DoD personnel discussing Blue Book, with more records declassified over time and researchers continuing to pursue the question of alien life.
