Airport Radar Emissions Could Be Detectable by Extraterrestrial Observers Up to 200 Light-Years Away
To the point
Led by Ramiro Caisse Saide and with co-author Michael Garrett, the researchers show that everyday airport radar signals could be detectable by extraterrestrial observers up to about 200 light-years away, making Earth appear as flickering, structured radio sources to nearby stars and signaling the need to protect the radio spectrum, rethink radar design, and strengthen space monitoring and planetary defense, even though detection would not indicate visitation and should be treated cautiously given current technology assumptions.
