Tracing AAWSAP: From DIA-funded Exploration to AARO’s Standardized UAP Analysis

From 2008–2012 a DIA-funded program run by BAASS studied far‑term aerospace threats and UAP topics, produced 38 DIRDs mostly literature syntheses, and was then terminated; AATIP became an informal label, public attention rose after 2017–2020 Navy videos, and the legacy stresses better data collection, open archives, cross‑agency analysis via AARO, and a governance framework that separates contract research from official DoD programs while treating UAP as an intelligence‑science challenge.
