Post-Detection Protocols and Related Materials from the IAA SETI Permanent Committee
IAA SETI Permanent Committee provides protocols for detection, analysis, verification, announcement, and response to signals from extraterrestrial civilizations, grants access to related documents and proposals (including Cover Letter for Post-Detection Protocols, SETI Post-Detection Protocols adopted 1989, Declaration of Principles revised 2010, Proposed SETI Reply Protocols, and two position papers on contacting extraterrestrials—a 1996 draft and a 2007 revision—along with A Contrarian Perspective on Altruism: the Dangers of First Contact), plus other resources such as Ten Decisions That Could Shake the World, the Rio Scale for quantifying detection significance, and the San Marino Scale for assessing transmission hazards, with a contact option for further inquiry.
